Carl Ichan: Big Pig Guy

Carl Ichan (debatable investing legend) is shaking up the McDonald’s board as he nominated two members to the board, the Wall Street Journal reported. Ichan had been engaging in heated debates with the company regarding their inhumane treatment of pigs, and finally reached a breaking point and launched a proxy fight and nominated two new members. McDonald’s is currently reviewing the nominations. Ichan’s pain point is McDonald’s so called “gestation crates” which are small crates used to house pregnant pigs.

According to the WSJ report, McDonald’s had made a pledge in 2012 to cease sourcing of pork which came from suppliers who had utilized the crates. Carl Ichan literally moved in silence and is no reminding the company that the chickens are coming home to roost. Big dawg status.

Obviously fas food has been in the spotlight for quite some time, with many Americans and individuals seeking healthier food choices to increase their overall health. Although, treatment of animals, and specifically; factory farming, has also come to the attention of most. Honestly, the whole concept of factory farming is pretty whack. Maximizing profits is obviously at the helm of every business, however there is to a degree a sense of morality that should be implemented in your business (in my earnest opinion). It’s pretty commendable for Ichan to move in silence and put pressure on McDonald’s. Albeit their food is honestly trash and I have no idea how their stock has performed as well as it has throughout the years. I think the Travis Scott plug certainly helped.
